Signs of the new school year are everywhere; stores are filled with pencils, notebook paper and cool folders and the weather is starting to slowly cool off.

While I am sure that most of you are all set with school supplies and clothes for the new school year, it seems that one thing that is left for the last minute sometimes is the first day of school picture.

I mean, it only takes a second to take a picture, but in the thousands of pictures that live in your phone, it would be nice to be able to pinpoint the pictures you took on your child’s first day of school.

Enter the ever helpful first day of school sign!  I remember the day my son was going to start his first day of kindergarten.

A few days before that, I was on the hunt for a cute first day of school sign that would be a fun way to commemorate my child’s first day of school every year.

It was a challenge.  I went from store to store searching for the perfect sign to fit the occasion.  There were so many signs that came so close to what I was looking for but were missing a few details that I really wanted.

We have helped you out by creating a few different templates for printable signs to get you started. There is a set of signs that keep things simple by containing the school year and what grade your child is starting.

This particular design keeps things simple and to the point, especially if you are in a big hurry or have a child that is not awake enough to answer questions.

If you prefer signs that give you the opportunity to personalize a bit more, we can help you there as well!  With short and simple questions that your child is able to answer easily, you can personalize their sign each year.

You also have the option to change any of the questions to better fit your child’s personality or their age.  As we know, what our kids think is cool changes every year, if not every month!

Both sets of signs are filled with bright and beautiful colors and capture a sense of celebration!  Take a look at these wonderful first day of school signs and feel free to pick the one that works the best for your child.

These free first day of school signs are fully customizable!  One of my favorite things about these very cool signs are how wonderfully colorful they are!

There is a sign that has shades of orange, yellow, blue, green and yellow and another option of a sign with shades of pink, blue, and purple.

Another great feature is that you are able to choose between a black or white background.  I also really like the cute banner that runs along the top, giving the sign a very celebratory feeling!

The dot borders between each question keep things organized yet still light.  There is also plenty of room for all of the possible answers your child may give.

The signs are currently set to include your child’s name, the grade they are starting, the name of their teacher, how they are feeling, what they love, their age and what they would like to do when they grow up.

Through the Canva site, you are able to fully customize these questions and answers to fully fit your child’s personality!

I know I go through the gauntlet of feelings from laughing to emotional crying when I listen to the answers my son gives to some of these questions!

It is so fun to go back and look at his answers and how they evolve over the passing years.  Your children will also no doubt enjoy looking back at all of their first day of school pictures as they get older.

Another idea is to collect all of the first day of school signs and photos over the years and create a book to give to your child when he or she graduates from high school.  It would be a memorable gift that reminds them how far they have come!

So whether your child is starting their first day of preschool, elementary school, middle school, or high school, you are all set to document each step of the way with these free printable signs.

This amazing download will help you find a better way to celebrate your kid’s first day by simplifying the entire process.  Say goodbye to first day stress and upset kids and hello to first day of school fun!
